Pinoy Ako: Tuyo by Dongabay

Filed Under (Music, Pinoy Ako, Traipsey-Turvey) by Z on 28-06-2008

I admit that I’ve never been a fan of OPM (Original Pinoy Music) when I was in high school. I admit that I thought they were very baduy (not cool)! Was I in for a surprise! There are a lot of really good Pinoy bands!

I have to give credit to my hubby, then my BF, who introduced me to awesome Pinoy music. I remember everytime he and his buddies have a “boys night out” (no, I don’t intentionally join them but sometimes, I end up being the only girl in the group and it’s not because I’m there to spoil their fun!) they would usually end up back home and listen to music and play instruments and continue their inumuan (drinking) session. My hubby would then take out our Ipod and play songs by Dongabay insisting that we listen to the lyrics and internalize them. Because of his influence, I ended up loving Dongabay. His songs are really surprisingly deep for a guy of his looks (see above). For most of you who don’t know him, Dongabay fronted Yano way back in the early ’90s. One of their songs that created lots of controversy was Banal na Aso, Santong Kabayo (need I say more?).

One of my favorite songs by Dongabay is Tuyo from his album Filipino. Listen to the music with the lyrics. I can guarantee that it will send shivers down your spine (well, it left a lasting effect on me).

ok lang kung tuyo na ang buhok
tulog ka na kapag inaantok
ok lang kung tuyo na ang batok
punas pawis para di amoy putok
ok lang kung tuyo na ang mata
tapos na yatang umiyak diba
ok lang kung tuyo na ang paa
di ka na magkakaalipunga
pero ano kung tuyo na ang dugo
kahit tiyan ma’y di na kukulo
ano kung tuyo na ang puso
baka biglang maglaho ang pagsuyo

chorus
dehins ok 4x

ok lang kung tuyo na ang laway
magmumug ka muna bago magsuklay
ok lang kung tuyo ng sinampay
may masusuot ka na mamaya sa lamay
ok lang kung tuyo na ang sulat
ang tinta e di na mababakas
ok lang kung tuyo na ang sugat
wag ka lang magkakapeklat
pero ano kung tuyo na ang gripo
paano magsisipilyo sa lababo
ano kung tuyo na ang poso
san maglalaba ng bra ang lola mo

chorus
dehins ok 4x

ok lang kung tuyo na ang ubas
may pulutan na tayong pasas
ok lang kung tuyo na ang gatas
may palamang keso bukas
ok lang kung tuyo na ang baka
may kakainin tayong tapa
ok lang kung tuyo na ang buwaya
may pabrika ng sinturon at bota

pero ano kung tuyo na ang balon
aasa ka na lang ba sa ambon
ano kung tuyo na ang talon
di na mag-eenjoy sa bakasyon
ano kung tuyo na ang sapa
mamamatay mga butete’t palaka
ano kung tuyo na ang lawa
luluwa ang mata ng mga isda

chorus
dehins ok 4x

ok lang kung tuyo na ang semento
bawal juminggel sa pader na ito
ok lang kung tuyo na ang aspalto
walang swimming pool sa kanto
ok lang kung tuyo na ang kable
di ka na uli makukuryente
ok lang kung tuyo ng kalye
walang baha trapik na lang ang dyahe

pero ano kung tuyo na ang gubat
magugutom tayo ng nakahubad
ano kung tuyo na ang dagat
sa ibang planeta lumipat

ok na ok 8x

Food Friday: Polish Sausage

Filed Under (Food Friday, Traipsey-Turvey) by Z on 27-06-2008

Polish Sausage bought at Costco. Yummy! I love it because you get to add your own onions, relish, and other condiments to your hotdog. Uber yummy! Of course, I had to drink soda even though I’m on a Coke strike but hey, it was part of the meal and get this, I didn’t even go for the free refill!

Blessings and Beyond tagged me and this is one tag that I am definitely going to do.  It is just so heart wrenching to find out that there were a lot of fatalities in this dreadful accident.  A lot of things seem to happen in just a blink of an eye and because of these, history will be forever changed.
My heart goes out to the kids who have become orphans, wives becoming single mothers, and husbands becoming both the mom and the dad.
We will rise from this unfortunate circumstance.  Another blow to our already down country.  Mabuhay.
Prayer for the MV Princess of the Stars fatalities and survivors.

Dear God, we pray that you comfort each bereaved family everyday as they grieved for their loss, we pray that you will supply all their needs, we pray for the survivors that they may have a good life after the tragedy, that you will bless them and let them know in the deepest part of their heart that in spite of what have happened, you LOVE and CARE for them. This we pray in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Please, let us encourage everyone to keep the prayer going.

LET’S P.U.S.H.
PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS.

WE PRAYED :

1. Through The Rain 2. God’s gift 3. Only in Silence 4. Blessings and Beyond 5. Traipsey Turvey 6. YOUR SPOT

I’m spreading this prayer to:  Zheon, Cherry, & Irish

Reviews: Wicked

Only bad witches are ugly.” said Glinda the good Witch of the North in the 1939 musical The Wizard of Oz. But the 2003 Wicked Broadway musical is totally different. This show is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which is also a re-imagining of Frank L. Baum’s classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
I have been waiting since ‘05 to see this show on Broadway but wasn’t able to because all the tickets were sold out! Luckily, my mom managed to grab two tickets for yesterday nights show for under 50 USD each! It was totally worth it! I love the show! It was funny and gave a pretty good insight on why the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, became wicked.
I think I came twice to shedding a few tears through the show since my heart went out to Elphaba, who was once a misunderstood girl and shunned because of her green skin. It was also explained why she had green skin at the start of Act 1.
The plot pretty much centered on Elphaba and Galinda the Good (the Good Witch of the North), who were roomies in Shiz University. Incidentally, it was Galinda (who later changed her name to Glinda) who gave Elphaba her black pointy hat and they became friends while also becoming rivals for Fiyero’s love. I loved the way they portrayed Glinda, a stuck up, self-centered, seemingly spoiled, rich girl who wanted to study magic. The Wicked Witch of the East was Elphaba’s sister Nessarose who opressed the Munchkins because she was obsessed with Boq (later became the Tin Man), who was in love with Galinda. This witch was killed in Act 2 because a house fell on top of her (now, doesn’t that sound familiar?).
Act 2 ended with a happy ending for the Wicked Witch, by the way. Of course, after being doused in water by Dorothy, she was presumed dead. The joke was on the people of Oz since it was all an elaborate set-up by Fiyero (who became the Scarecrow) and Elphaba.

At Universal City (2 stops away from Hollywood & Vine)

At Hollywood & Vine
Hollywood and Vine, the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, became famous in the 1920s for its concentration of radio and movie-related businesses. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is centered on the intersection.

At the Pantages Theater, Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, California
The Pantages Theatre, formerly known as RKO Pantages Theatre, is located at Hollywood and Vine (6233 Hollywood Boulevard), Hollywood, California in the United States of America. Designed by architect B. Marcus Priteca, it was the last theatre built for the impresario Alexander Pantages. The palatial Art Deco theatre opened on June 4th, 1930, as part of the Pantages Theatre Circuit.

In the train back to Universal City.
The Metro Red Line of the Los Angeles County Metro Rail is a heavy rail rapid transit line in Los Angeles. It is one of Los Angeles’ two rapid transit lines (along with the Metro Purple Line), and also the busiest of the five Metro Rail lines (the other three are light rail, largely surface lines). Unlike LACMTA’s other rail lines, the Red-Purple Line subway tunnels run entirely within the city of Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take pics inside the theater because it wasn’t allowed. Anyway, I’m leaving you with my favorite song from Wicked, Defying Gravity. Pics also posted on Multiply.
