Experiments: Real D 3D

When I found out that there was going to be a remake? of the movie A Journey to the Center of the Earth with a modern twist, I thought that it would be an okay movie to watch. I mean, I absolutely love books written by Jules Verne and A Journey… is one of my faves. When I found out that it would also be shown in Real D 3D, I was ecstatic! I haven’t seen a movie in 3D before (ignorant, much)! So there I was, waiting for the movie to be released on the big screen until it finally came out last Friday.
We watched the movie last Sunday. However, the movie wasn’t really that good. It was just okay. Brendan Frasier wasn’t funny this time, unlike his antics in The Mummy. I did love the 3D part of the movie! There were a few eewww parts in the movie where the 3D effect really amplified the experience; e.g. when Trevor (Brendan Frasier’s character) spat after he brushed his teeth and the camera was angled in a way where he looked like he spat on the camera; in 3D, it looked like he spat on us! Ewww! There were also other neat amplified 3D effects in the movie where I swear I could smell lava or something; I know it’s just my overactive imagination but the 3D did it.

This was a better experience than watching movies on IMAX. I mean, IMAX is just a big screen but the 3D really added an ooopphh where IMAX could not.

Experiments: Monetizing Your Blog Part 1

I’ve learned a lot of things during the few months that I have returned to blogging. One of which is monetizing my blog. But how do you monetize your blog? Well, I’m sure most of you have come across a lot of get paid to blog and get paid to advertise sites so I think it would be too much information if I would blog about them (but maybe I’ll include a separate post for the legit sites).
I would like to share to you a few tips on how to go about monetizing your blog.
  1. First of, you should have your very own blog. Don’t have one? There are a lot of blog hosting sites that would host your blogs for free. I am currently using Blogger.com.
  2. Next, think about your over-all blog theme or the look of your blog. There are also a lot of pre-made themes and blog designs available to you if you don’t know how to make them from scratch (like me). Just search for it using any search engine like Google.com. Adding a unique look or an interesting theme will increase appeal to your blog, thereby driving in new readers.
  3. Now that you have made your blog to your liking, it is now time to start posting. This would depend on what you would want to write about. Free your mind and let your creative juices flow. Be creative. Always remember that content is KING.
  4. I would also advice you to buy your own domain. Blogger.com offers cheap domain hosting so if you signed up for a Blogger.com blog, then purchase a domain there. This is optional however, there are some websites that do not accept subdomains. You would know that your blog is a subdomain when your blog URL looks like this http://yoursite.blogspot.com (I am using Blogger.com as an example). You can still monetize your blog even if you are still subdomained but you will get less opportunities than others who have their own domain like http://www.yoursite.com.
  5. Next, you need to build a network of blogging friends. This can be achieved by visiting other blogs and requesting for exchange links. Although I love exchanging links, I would advise you to exchange links with blogs that you really visit. Doing this can build up your readership and add traffic to your blogs. Joining social sites, link surfing sites, and webrings are also a good way to drive traffic to your blog.
  6. During this time, blog hopping and exchanging links can be done while letting your blog mature. When I say mature, I simply mean that you need your blog to be online for one month or so (you will know why later). During which time, you also need to publish 3-4 unique blog posts in a week. Unique blog posts mean that they are your original writing and not something that you just ctrl + c and ctrl + v (copied) from some site or blog.
  7. I emphasized that you need your blog to be online for about a month because most websites that will enable you to monetize your blog require you to have your blog online for at least 30 days; some sites even require more time. I also stressed that you need to publish 3-4 unique blog posts in a week because that is also one of their requirements.
  8. Now that you have done all of these, it’s time to sign up for websites that will allow you to monetize your blog. There are a lot of sites out there that offer this service so searching them would not be a problem. However, some of these sites are out to scam you, so watch out!
Well, that’s it for now. I am going to add a few tips that I learned (some of them I’ve learned the hard way) while blogging. I am not a pro-blogger and I am not a techie literate blogger; just a newbie sharing her experiences in the world of blogging.
Don’t fret when you think that monetizing your blog seems hard and impossible. It will come; you will earn.

Experiments: Chinese All You Can Eat Buffet

Who wouldn’t want to go on an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet? Well, I really love going to these restaurants, especially if it’s Chinese. I’m not a glutton, mind you, but if you want to eat a variety of food at an affordable price, then the buffet is the best option for you.
With a wide array of food to choose from, this would be a gluttons idea of heaven. I must stress out, though, that the food is not that good and it is also not that authentic. So if you are looking to get the most authentic Chinese food, simply skip all-you-can-eat buffets. I’m not saying that their food is totally gross. Well, their food is okay but sometimes, they taste alike (yup, they do).
What you can typically find at a Chinese All-You-Can-Eat Buffet are orange chicken/lemon chicken, beef in onions, pork strips, fried rice, different kinds of soups, synthetic crab, pork barbeque, coconut shrimp/walnut shrimp, steamed fish, other veggies, various deserts including soft ice cream, sushi/California rolls (isn’t sushi Japanese?), different salads and fruits, and during dinner; crab legs.
Dinner usually costs a bit more compared to lunch because of the crab legs. Unfortunately, crab legs are a messy so we always opt for lunch.
Want to try it? You can just search for any Chinese All-You-Can-Eat Buffet in your area. We are still planning to check out authentic Chinese cuisine so wait for my take on that.

Experiments: Vietnamese Cuisine

Have you ever tried Vietnamese food? I certainly haven’t, well, until this afternoon and it was an experience that I will never forget! I was a bit hesitant when my mom told me that we were going to have a late lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown. I wasn’t too happy about it. In my mind, I was thinking that the food would be really weird and not to my taste. I was WRONG!
It was the best Vietnamese food that I ever tasted! I was hesitant however, to taste the soup (they call it Pho) so I picked something in the menu that really sounded okay. Their menu had Vietnamese names with English translation below it. I ordered #66 Pork Chops with Beef Strips and Rice. My mom and her friend both ordered #5 Pho (soup something or other…I forgot). We also ordered Imperial Rolls (they are like lumpia and taste similar to lumpia, too).

They were all uber yummy! I also tried the Pho and it was not at all what I expected. The soup was yummy with a minty taste which really surprised me a lot. When I tried their Imperial Rolls, I wrapped them with green lettuce and dipped in their special dipping sauce with carrots. Ummmm yummy! I never thought I would love veggies this much! We should try eating lumpia wrapped in lettuce sometime!
I am all for tasting foods from different cultures. I admit, Vietnamese food really had an Asian flair to it and is quite different from Chinese food which we are all familiar with. I still can’t wait to try other yummy foods from different cultures.
